🚨 US FBI Disrupts Major Chinese Hacking Group “Flax Typhoon” 🚨
WASHINGTON, Sept 18 – The FBI has disrupted a second major Chinese hacking group known as “Flax Typhoon,” reclaiming control over thousands of compromised devices. FBI Director Christopher Wray announced this significant operation at a cybersecurity conference in Washington.
Flax Typhoon, operated by a Chinese company called the Integrity Technology Group, posed as an IT firm while secretly collecting intelligence and conducting reconnaissance for Chinese government security agencies. This group targeted critical infrastructure, corporations, media organizations, universities, and government agencies.
To hide their activities, Flax Typhoon used a “botnet” – a network of hijacked devices including cameras and digital storage devices. When the FBI attempted to take control of the botnet’s infrastructure, the hackers launched a cyberattack before eventually backing down.
This action follows growing concerns over another Chinese hacking group, Volt Typhoon, which has been identified as a cyber sabotage group focused on infiltrating critical U.S. infrastructure.
FBI Director Wray emphasized that the fight against China’s hacking efforts is ongoing, stating that the action against Flax Typhoon was “just one round in a much longer fight.”
Stay vigilant and informed as these cyber threats continue to evolve.
